midwives

“You are a midwife, assisting at someone else’s birth. Do good without show or fuss. Facilitate what is happening rather than what you think ought to be happening. If you must take the lead, lead so that the mother is helped, yet still free and in charge. When the baby is born, the mother will rightly say: “We did it ourselves!” – Lao Tzu, Tao Te Ching

“I was born naturally. My mother felt and watched me emerge from her and open up to take my first breath. She was elated. As a child she told me about it often. As she told me, I felt the power and importance of that experience to her. I understood it and I knew that was special to me.” ~ Dinah

Dinah Waranch

Dinah is the owner  of Lovers Lane Birth Center.  She is a certified nurse midwife, which means she is a registered nurse with graduate certification in midwifery.  She has worked as a childbirth educator, a postpartum nurse, a labor and delivery nurse and a home and birth center birth assistant prior to starting her own midwifery practice.  She has attended hospital, home and birth center births.  She is totally committed to out of hospital birth and has had three wonderful, empowering natural births herself.

“I believe that women and their babies are too important to be left to the mercy of an insensitive, expensive and interventive medical system.” ~ Dinah

Emily Sloan
Certified Nurse Midwife

Emily Sloan is a board certified nurse-midwife whose own personal experience has shaped her desire to work as a midwife. She has seven children and birthed them all naturally, choosing a planned home birth for her last two pregnancies. Emily believes that health care providers should trust in the normal physiologic process of labor and birth and the power of women and their bodies. Emily is proud to have the opportunity to empower women in the community to make their own informed choices and watch them grow in confidence as they approach motherhood. Emily earned her Doctorate in nurse-midwifery at Baylor University’s Louise Herrington School of Nursing, her Bachelor’s Degree in Biology from Southern Methodist University and her Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing from Baylor University. Emily’s experience also includes educating future nurses by teaching in the undergraduate nursing program at Baylor University. With an interest in improving international health, Emily has traveled to South Africa to study the HIV/AIDS pandemic in urban and rural communities, to India to speak and lead a midwifery workshop about postpartum hemorrhage management, and is currently working with the Maya population in the Yucatan Peninsula of Mexico to help improve prenatal nutrition and gestational weight gain.

Angela
Billing/Finance

I am a mother of three teenagers and feel most comfortable taking natural approaches to parenting as well as everyday living. I am delighted to work with women who have a passion to care for and support other women. My role at the birth center is working with the financial side of things and office administration. I also provide Placenta Encapsulation services exclusively for Lovers Lane Birth Center clients.  I enjoy getting to know the women we care for and always feel excited when a past client comes back to see us again!

Debbie
Receptionist/Front Office

I’m a “transplant” from Chicago, having moved to the Dallas/Ft. Worth area to be with my daughter and awesome Grandson, Charlie. Both of my children were born in the hospital back home, but I am proud to say they were natural births. I fully support the birth experiences offered to women through Lovers Lane Birth Center.  I am very happy to offer my services as the Front Desk Receptionist by welcoming each and every one into the center and helping keep the office running smoothly.
